Two brothers, brought up in the farmland of East Texas during the depression era, came to Houston, Texas in pursuit of employment after being discharged from the military at the end of WWII. Finding work as safe-and-door technicians, they soon pooled their savings and purchased Acme Safe and Lock Service Company.
The brothers took this small safe-and-door-closer company and began to mold it into the largest service company in Houston, providing locksmith service to both commercial and residential customers. With their knowledge of the door-closer industry, the brothers repaired defective closers for their customers from South Texas and Louisiana schools. Since Acme was one of the only vendors that called on schools in South Texas and Louisiana, their services often included supplying items ranging from basketballs to window sashes. These items were otherwise unavailable in these small towns.
As Houston's skyline grew, Acme continued to grow by providing service and materials to the contractors and tenants of high-rise office towers, hospitals, universities, and the like. Today, two brothers still control Acme. In 1994, a second generation purchased Acme Safe & Lock and changed the name to Acme Architectural Hardware. While continuing the tradition of service and quality, Acme's warehouse has grown and our construction, institutional, and commercial property customers find the material they need in Acme's warehouse. Our warehouse contains 6,000 different line items and represents more than 100 manufacturers.
